Most born-again Christians are aware that salvation is by grace, and not by our works. Ephesians 2:8,9 tells us that it is a gift of God. But it is easy to stop our reading at verse 9, neglecting to go on to verse 10: "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." That is why the apostle James in his epistle emphasized the need of acting upon the gift that God has given us by ministering to the needs of others. He wrote, "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." (James 1:27)
